Who We Are
Meet our Board of Directors
-
Charlie Riou | President
Charlie started mountain biking in the early 90's on a full rigid steel geared mountain bike. His tech hasn't changed much over the years, in fact it's regressed with his current use of a fixed gear rigid steel bike. He got involved in trail building with the Austin Ridge Riders in the early 00's. He has served on the Board of Directors many years. He has led the design, building and maintenance of countless trails in the Austin area and beyond, including some in northern Nevada. Two of his biggest projects were the first trail system at Reveille Peak Ranch and a major trail expansion project at Pedernales Falls State Park including Juniper Ridge trail. He really enjoys rock work and nerding out on nature. His vision for ARR is a focus on education in all areas relating to mountain biking including skills, trail building and trail etiquette as well as fostering understanding and collaboration with land managers and all user groups that share our trails.
-
Cullen McMorrow | Vice President
Cullen grew up in Barton Hills riding mountain bikes in the Barton Creek Greenbelt, skateboarding, and riding BMX. He went to UT Austin and continued to ride BMX, building ramps and dirt jumps. He began mountain biking again in 2005 and has volunteered regularly with the Club since then. Cullen is a big fan of the "Flow Country" concept of trail building; where flow features and obstacle features are mixed into regular trails. Cullen travels to ride both cross country and downhill MTB whenever possible. In addition to serving as the Vice President, he’s the Trail Steward for Walnut Creek Metro Park, and formerly the Trails Program Director of ARR. Cullen is committed to building trails and features for a range of skill levels, supporting trail stewards, and growing the success of the ARR.
-
Jeff Daugherty | Treasurer
Jeff has been an Austin Ridge Riders member since 2007 and joined the Board of Directors in 2011. During his tenure, Jeff has served as a board member at large, Trail Steward Coordinator, Secretary and he presently serves as the Club’s Treasurer. Jeff is active in building and maintaining ARR trails. He is one of two trail stewards that helps to maintain the Army Corp of Engineers Lake Georgetown Goodwater trail, which is an IMBA Epic trial. Beyond his love of mountain biking he also enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, scuba diving and all things outdoors.
-
Renee Mocha | Secretary
Renee started mountain biking in 2017. Her go to ride spots are at Brushy Creek or Walnut Park, but she loves exploring new trails and is always down for a road trip. She began volunteering as a Ride Like A Girl leader and as the Austin Ridge Riders Secretary in 2021. She loves to help people improve their bike skills and hopes you’ll join the Club for a group ride!
-
Caroline Alexander | Grants Director
Caroline got her first mountain bike in the late 1990s but didn't catch the fever until a family trip to Angel Fire Bike Park in 2020. She finally found Austin Ridge Riders' Ride Like a Girl program in 2022 and discovered how much she had to learn. Since then, she has been riding as much as the weather and her schedule will allow. She is always looking for new trails to explore and new features to conquer. As grants coordinator, she hopes to bring additional resources to Austin-area trails to enhance and expand the network.
-
Dale Daugherty | Marketing & Communications Director
Dale was born and raised in Austin. Mountain biking started out as a way for Dale to build fitness and evolved into a total love affair with dirt and photography. When he’s not riding with friends, he is stacking dirt jumps and berms, cutting new single track, shooting races and events, and making fun content for MTBATX – a project he started to help build enthusiasm for the sport of mountain biking in central Texas. South Austin Trail Network is his home, and where he spends most of his time doing trail work. His favorite trails in the Austin area include Flodelo, Texas Two Step, and exploring trails not typically listed on the internet!
-
Abel Pardo | Ride Program Director
Abel has lived in Austin since 1998 and began mountain biking when he joined ARR in 2016. Since then, he has enjoyed meeting new people and learning new trails. Though he is not much for racing, he does like to participate in endurance events. He has been riding Judgement Day in Dallas for the past couple of years, a 70-mile ride event! As a regular Sunday ride leader, he loves working with new riders and showing them new trails.
-
Lara Bridges | Women's Program Director
One garage cleanout set off a series of events that resulted in Lara's love of mountain biking. After discovering the Austin Ridge Riders and Ride Like a Girl in 2021, Lara found a new sense of confidence and empowerment, both on and off the bike, that has truly changed her life. She very much enjoys helping others discover the same. Lara has since served as a ride leader for the ARR Sunday, monthly, and Ride Like a Girl program rides in an effort to help get more people on bikes. She also mentors and leads rides for the Austin area Little Bellas program. Thru the Ride Like a Girl program, Lara hopes to nurture a safe space for women to discover, grow, and build confidence and independence, both on their bikes and in their everyday lives, while fostering meaningful and lasting relationships within the Austin Mountain biking community and beyond.
